Right now she is thinking of breaking up with him after her exams but she is scared that people may blame her and this will bring out a backlash towards her and also doesn't want to leave him at the same time.

2020.09.24 22:51 Gagan403 Opinion on parent's who threaten to kill, harm or excommunicate their children for not being religious.

I apologize if I unintentionally offend anyone. To keep it short I come from an extremely religious Sikh family. To give you an idea of how religious my family is, my sister was dating a Hindu person for several years and when she told my dad he grabbed a steal plate and started hitting his head until his entire face was a bloody pulp. Growing up every time I told my Dad I want to cut my hair it was followed by death threats. My parent's spend thousands of dollars buying a tabla/harmonium and shabad/ gurbani lessons which I had absolutely zero interest in. Not to mention my family was poor and so they literally borrowed money to teach me something that I cried and yelled at them I didn't want to do. During my teenage years I harvested an extreme hatred for my parents. Around age 20 I had a very serous suicide attempt, the doctor only gave me a 20% of survival . Miraculously I survived and made a full recovery. After I explained to my parents that they're the reason i wanted to kill myself their demeanor completely changed. Fast forward 6 years my family went on a beach vacation and I got drunk and left and when my dad finally found me I started beating him up for ruining my childhood. I know this was extremely stupid of me and is the biggest regret of my life. I got kicked out and live far away now. My parent's are now old and won't be around for much long. I am an agonostic though I still respect my Sikh heritage. I always listen to Kam Lohgarh who posts Sikh war song on YouTube and find great inspiration in them. I'm not sure what to do. Despite everything I still love my parents very much but deep down inside I still have alot of discontent because I feel they ruined my childhood with strict religious parenting and caused me to develop severe mental health issues. To be honest part of me knows I will probably commit suicide after my parents pass away. They are the only reason I am still alive.

We’re no experts, but from what we understand, as per Vaastu Shastra, it's believed that ideally the Marble Radha Krishna Statues should be placed within the north east corner of your home, i.e. the deities should face the south west direction. Therefore, once you worship Marble Radha Krishna Statues, you'll be facing the north east direction. The north, or east also are commonly considered appropriate directions for a placement of a home temple. One the most reasons for this as per the shastras is that the north-east, north or east corner is where the energy of the house emanates and thus is that the best fitted to the pooja mandir and therefore the deities to be seated there.

Traditionally in India, the north east corner is mentioned because the Ishaan corner, which springs from the sanskrit word for Lord, Ishwar and thus transcribes because the ‘Corner of the Lord.’ one more reason these directions are considered auspicious for a pooja temple or all religious activity for that matter whether it's chanting, meditation, or archana, is due to the very fact the Sun or Surya rises within the east and as we all alright know, it's the source and origin of all energy and life during this universe and hence also worshipped in Hinduism. With no disrespect meant to anyone, we truly feel that if our faith in our Lord is true and if our intentions are good and our conscience is obvious , then regardless of what the direction, anywhere where the temple is kept is that the best place within the home, regardless of the direction, because our Lord resides there. It’s just something to think about!

2020.09.23 21:34 CaramelxMarshmallows Indian women should NOT marry: 1.3 billion reasons

Indian women should absolutely NOT marry in the current Indian climate and in this essay I'll explain why it's too risky and the laws DON'T help.
India has 77 million more men than women. Reasons? Extreme male preference leading to widespread female foeticides and infanticides.
Now that they've killed all the women, Indian men don't have anyone to marry so they're looking elsewhere, for more gullible targets.
Women in India accounted for 36% of global female suicide deaths in 2016, despite making up less than 18% of the world’s female population

💀 Patriarchal upbringing and male pandered brainwashing of women💀

This starts at birth. Desi women are told that their entire self-worth and purpose is wrapped up in being a self-sacrificing wife, mother, and pillar of the household. After a woman reaches X age, she's constantly pressurised to marry. Often against her wishes, marriage proposals are sent and she's forced to marry a NVM that looks like an elephant sized amorphohallus.

💀 Blaming the women 💀

The number 1 rule of misogyny is: Blame the women.
Whenever something is wrong in the house or the family, people always ask “why didn’t do something about this?”, so from the get-go, your entire future is framed in terms of marriage and your future family. So a lot of women don’t know any better, and they’re a failure if they try to leave.

💀 Internalised misogyny💀

For this reason, a lot of older women in the family/MILs will treat younger women piss poorly, but for some the intention is to teach them at a young age how to manage a household and survive in a joint family, especially when it was tough for a lot of these MILs.

💀The MIL nightmare💀

The MIL will treat you like a slave. Will make you bend over backwards to make sure her son with the face of an elephant sized amorphophallus lives comfortably.

💀 Trashy NVM💀

Don't expect them to treat you like a Queen. They don't care about your happiness and they'll blame you if you raise your voice or try to leave. They'd rather you burn your blood and be a fuckin slave while they act like they're living a good life.

💀Abuse💀

Financial, physical, mental, emotional, psychological, sexual. Endless gaslighting. You name it.

💀No financial independence💀

You will be forced to resign from your job. If you don't, you face repercussions. The financial component is that men are breadwinners and they’ve never been taught to emotionally or intimately provide for their families, and it’s not like their parents’ relationships showed them any different. So women, even if they want things to change, don’t really have the financial backing or the power to get what they want. If they go back home, their family will be talked about or socially shamed (not to mention her family will probably be the ones doing the shaming).

💀Divorce💀

If they get divorced, the man will easily be married but she will have a “dirty/used goods” mentality about her. And kids make it all the more complicated, because if their lives are affected in any way, it’s the mom’s face and FDS mindsets will change things for women now, but the main thing is that women need to know that there are other options out there and the relationship they see with their parents isn’t the only reality they have to subject themselves to.
Speaking of the divorce, Triple talaq is a form of divorce that was practised in Islam, whereby a Muslim man could legally divorce his wife by pronouncing talaq (the Arabic word for divorce) three times. A divorced woman could not remarry her divorced husband unless she first married another man, slept with him for one night, a practice called nikah halala.
https://www.thequint.com/news/india/3-triple-talaq-victims-share-their-tragic-tales

💀Predatory grooming💀

Society strives to keep female financial independence to the bare minimum. Parents try to get girls fresh out of college or in their final semesters married, what life experience would these girls have?
Men, and their families want younger girls so they can "mold" them as they choose.

💀 Delusional romantic movies💀

Movies romanticize domestic lives, showing some stolen kisses in a kitchen while ignoring the larger nightmare that half the family is in the living room while this girl is cooking alone and her husband is distracting her.

💀Dowry💀

Be prepared to pay dowry at the time of: engagement, marriage, after visiting your own home, after your parents visit you, after the birth of every child.

💀 Housework💀

Be prepared to cook, clean and do all stuff while your family lounges watching TV and your MIL complains that you can't do stuff properly.

💀Family shaming💀

Your family will be shamed for anything your in-laws deem "inappropriate". Can't cook? Shame on your family. They didn't teach you to be a good DIL.

💀No healthy sexuality💀

Be prepared to have a lifetime of non-orgasmic sex and be ready to be sl*t shamed to the highest level incase you demand anything or masturbate. Men think sex is something humiliating and derogatory done to women.

💀 Restrictions on clothing💀

You maybe forced to wear ONLY traditional Indian dresses or your clothes may be regulated by your MIL to make you "fit to be a decent DIL".

💀 Entertaining guests💀

Your in-laws will call people to the house and YOU will be expected to prepare a luncheon and entertain them.

💀 In-law politics and gaslighting💀

They will make a mountain of a molehill at every point and you'll be seen as the trouble. If you buy something or get a gift from someone, expect your in-laws to get jealous and pass comments.

💀Womb- hijacking💀

You will be expected to be a good DIL and pop out kids as per your family's demands. You won't have a choice!
The DIL is supposed to have as many sons as possible. But a single daughter and the DIL along with her entire family gets shamed.
In some parts of the country, illegal tests are being done to determine sex of the child. If female, then it's illegal abortions, throwing DIL down the stairs, murder. You name it.
Especially MIL expects her DIL to give her grandchild within a year. I've seen my aunts and my mum's friends nag their DIL for it.
If you decide to be childfree, you'll be labelled "barren land" and someone who must be pitied. They won't care even if your husband is childfree which is unlikely.
After having kids and fulfilling their "kidesire", you'll be expected to "be mature" and leave your job, if you haven't already, to fully focus on child rearing. If you manage work and childcare, then be prepared to be exhausted and get gaslighted by the family for "riding two boats at the same time" while the in-laws will try to spoil the kids so that they can blame you.

💀Periodophobia💀

Menstruation is looked at as something impure in most families. Expect to be treated like an impure object, excluded from literally everything, separate utensils, no permission to enter the kitchen or to eat/ cook/ serve food to others or attend any religious occasion including weddings and funerals.

💀 Polygamy💀

Polygamy became illegal in India in 1956, uniformly for all of its citizens except for Muslims, who are permitted to have four wives and for Hindus in Goa and along the western coast where bigamy is legal. A polygamous Hindu marriage is null and void.

Some feminist commentary

Turkish feminist economist Deniz Kandiyoti calls this behavior Token Torture a form of bargain with patriarchy (PDF) where MIL gains some sense of control over a weaker female in her close proximity i.e. the DIL.

💀 State sponsored patriarchal control on married Indian women: 💀

  1. The Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act, 1956
The law upholds father as the natural guardians of a Hindu, minor and after him comes the mother. This means the father is considered the natural guardian of a child, with respect to all legal decisions over a child’s life or even if you need to sign a document on behalf of the child the mother can’t do it by herself. There have been some cases which have been taken to court because a mother has done some investment on behalf of the child and the bank has refused the papers saying that the father has not signed. The actual implication is that the mother is not able to make her decisions on her own especially when she is dealing with the government or official institutions.
  1. Adultery: Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code read with Section 198(2) of the Criminal Procedure Code
This one is tricky because prima facie it feels like it is pro-women since only, married men can be tried for this. The misogyny in this is that only aggrieved husbands can register the case. So the man whose wife is being cheated upon just has to grin and bear it.
  1. Marriagable Age: Hindu Marriage Act
Minimum age for marriage is 18 for girls and 21 for boys. Go figure why.
  1. Marital Property
In India, there is no concept of marital property i.e. shared property of the husband and wife. After divorce, the court asks the earning spouse (generally the husband) to provide the wife with a nominal maintenance. Unless the property is registered in her name, the wife does not get a share in the property. Also, maintenance stops if the husband dies. Then what? The divorced wife has no property in her hands. Her contribution towards the household is not taken into consideration so as to distribute the property, at least that which was acquired during matrimony, in a proportional manner. Instead, everything remains with the husband and is inherited by his heirs.
  1. The Hindu Succession Act
Section 15 of the Hindu Succession Act states that the property of a female Hindu dying intestate should devolve upon (after her children and grandchildren) the heirs of her husband before her own parents.
Even if her in laws mistreated her, by law, all her property could go to them.
  1. Rape of a separated wife
The rape of a separated wife carries lesser punishment than the rape of any other woman. Forced sexual intercourse with the former is punishable with two to seven years of imprisonment. Prison sentence for the rape of any other woman ranges from seven years to life.
https://qz.com/india/224632/indian-women-will-never-be-equal-as-long-as-these-9-laws-remain-on-the-books/
©To all the Queens for help. Thanks a lot! 🙂
So my desi queens, I suggest we learn something from our Japanese and Korean counterparts. They raised their voices but no one listened. So now they've stopped dating, marrying and having children in such large numbers that both these countries have a birth rate of less than 1 with a steadily declining population. So why should we contribute when the laws itself want to curtail us?

A fun fact: As per the Indian society, I'm a "home wrecker" because of this post. In their opinion, I'm trying to "destroy families and Indian culture".

2020.09.22 18:07 StrawHatJedi Zoro's Path to be 'Known in the Heavens' & The History of Wano

Sorry, this is a re-post from a few days ago. I wanted to re-write my post, explaining my position in greater detail.
I have made this topic in video form here:
https://youtu.be/Ds5SKH6DLwc
I have been thinking a lot about Zoro's path to becoming the greatest swordsman in the world. I'm re-reading the series presently and had a few thoughts after Zoro's backstory.
Zoro's stated motivation is to make his name 'known in the Heavens'. Nothing in One Piece is without purpose. As the series has progressed, we have learned more about the structure of the One Piece world which has put Luffy's quest to becoming pirate King in new context. Keep in mind the identity and moral character of those who presently occupy the holy land, the heavens, in the One Piece world and call themselves gods.
In the volume 96 SBS Oda indicated Zoro may be descended from people from Wano, which means his dream may be thematically and narratively linked to Wano and its history. It would seem no small coincidence then that Wano is so closely tied to Joy Boy, the one who seemingly left One piece behind.
Zoro's path has a number of interesting parallel's to Luffy's, which leads me to believe his quest to become the World's Greatest Swordsman is deeply intertwined with Luffy's dream of becoming Pirate King.
The chapter where Luffy and Zoro defeat Morgan and Helmeppo is titled "The King of the Pirates and the Master Swordsman." In chapter 52, Mihawk remarks that Luffy and Zoro make an impressive pair. Like Rayleigh to Luffy, Mihawk recognizes the potential in Zoro. He spares Zoro's life, tells him to see the world on his journey to the top. He also mentors Zoro during the two year time skip in a manner similar to Rayleigh's instruction of Luffy.
In a previous post, I discussed a theory about Shanks and his possible connection to the Celestial Dragons, in which I brought up the idea the idea that Mihawk, his most notorious rival, shares the same iris pattern as the enigmatic secret world King Imu. I failed to elaborate on that point and, in truth, I’m not entirely certain what this implies. Zunesha, the giant elephant cursed to walk the world’s seas 1,000 years ago for committing an unknown crime, also shares this trait.
I think this perhaps implies Mihawk has in some way encountered Imu or the world nobles, which might make sense if Shanks also has ties to Marijoa. If true, this has some interesting implications for Zoro, one of the Straw Hat Pirates, and what it might mean for his quest to become the World’s Greatest Swordsman.
It’s somewhat remarkable how little time is spent on Zoro’s backstory in chapter 5. In less than half a chapter (7 pages) we learn about Zoro’s time as a student in Koshirou’s dojo. Oda elaborates on the history of the village where Zoro grew up and the dojo where he trained In the Volume 96 SBS.
The Founder of Shimotsuki Village in the East Blue was Shimotsuki Kozaburo, who crafted Kozuki Oden’s two blades, Enma and Ame no Habakiri. Kozaburo was the elder in Zoro’s village and father of Shimotsuki Koshirou, Zoro’s sword master and grandfather of Shimotsuki Kuina, Zoro’s childhood friend to whom he made a vow to become the world’s greatest Swordsman. Kozaburo along with other members of the Shimotsuki Clan departed from Wano 50 years before the story began (9 years before the start of Oden’s flashback). The Shimotsuki helped the local villagers defeat a band of mountain bandits and founded the village. In SBS, Oda implies that Zoro is somehow related to the Shimotuski Clan despite the fact that his family name is Roronoa. This could mean that one of Zoro’s parents was a local villager and the other, maybe his mother, was a member of the Shimotsuki Clan from Wano. He indicates that further information may later be revealed in the narrative and the Wano arc provides the further opportunity.
I believe Zoro’s connection to Wano and his dream to become the world’s greatest swordsman may be more closely intertwined with the central narrative than was at first apparent. I will explain in a future video the manner in which I believe the dreams of all members of Luffy’s crew, at least in part are related to Luffy’s dream of becoming Pirate King and the history of the One Piece world, but for now, let’s focus on Zoro.
Following the tragic death of Kuina, Zoro’s dream is to become the World’s Greatest Swordsman such that his name will be great enough to be known even in Heaven.
Oda frequently touches upon similar spiritual symbolism in relation to Zoro. Zoro wants to make his name known in the heavens. During Skypiea, he states his refusal to pray to any gods. Zoro’s aura when he faces Kaku and unleashes Asura resembles a demon (In Hindu mythology, Asura are powerful demigods / demons). Zoro is often branded as a demon with supernatural strength due to his prowess in battle. In Wano, it is believed that swords are bound to the spirits of those who carried them. The sword Zoro won on Thriller Bark was previously carried by Shimotsuki Ryuma, famous on Wano for having defeated a dragon, an event inspired by Oda’s one-shot story Monsters. He has since lost that sword and replaced it with Enma, a sword carried by Kozuki Oden, the name of which refers to the King of Hell in the mythology of certain Buddhist sects in East Asia. Wado Ichimonji, the sword he inherited from Kuina, means ‘Straight Line through the path of Harmony’. Following his defeat by Mihawk, Zoro receives the cursed blade Sandai Kitetsu in Logue Town. He tests the sword’s curse against his own fortune, emerging victorious and claiming the blade as his own. Its predecessor, Nidai Kitetsu is now in play during the Wano arc and the original sword of this line, Shodai Kitetsu, seems to be held by a member of the Five Elders given the similar tsuba guard and handle patterns, known as the tsuba and tsuka respectively.
From Zoro’s three current swords, we can gain an understanding of his character. Branded a demon, or the King of Hell (Enam), Zoro is in truth a good, honorable man who walks the straight path of harmony (Wado Ichimonji), and fights against evil swordsman in his quest (Demon-Splitter; Kitetsu) to become the World’s Greatest Swordsman.
This should lead Zoro to an ultimate confrontation with Dracule Mihawk, currently regarded as the World’s Greatest Swordsman. Yet the final conflict of the series following the discovery of One Piece is most likely to be against the World Government. Mihawk was never a true loyalist as a member of the Seven Warlords and now that they have been disbanded, his ties to the organization which holds power are seemingly severed. So how does Zoro’s quest now align with Luffy’s dream to become the World King?
Well, I think we need to ask two questions. How Mihawk came to be regarded as the strongest swordsman in the One Piece world and what if he isn’t? I mentioned at the start of the video that the iris pattern Mihawk shares with Imu could imply some connection to the World’s secret king and perhaps more significantly, the Five Elders. Mihawk is the strongest swordsman on Earth, but what of the Heavens where reside the world’s nobility?
As the story has progressed, we have learned that the Celestial Dragons, world nobles, live as ‘gods’, while those who oppose them are branded as ‘devils’ or ‘demons’. The people who carry the name D. for example are called the ‘enemies of the gods.’ From is introduction, Zoro is a good person, but is called a demon by the world around him. Luffy sees as much and invites Zoro to join his crew. In the world of One Piece, those who call themselves Gods are the true demons / devils.
The moon, is frequently seen as a symbol of hope in the One Piece world, particularly in relation to those who guard the path to One Piece and await a future promised day. The clans of Wano, aside from the cursed Kurozumi Clan, match this nomenclature. The Kozuki Clan (Light Moon) were allies to Joy Boy, who crafted the Poneglyphs upon which the True History was inscribed.
The Name Shimotsuki means ‘Frost Moon’. As implied in the volume 96 SBS, Zoro himself may be an heir to Wano’s history as a member of the Shimotsuki Clan to which Ryuma, Koshiro, and Kuina also belonged. Worth noting here that in Sabo’s flashback, we see that Koshiro may have been working with or supplying the Revolutionary Army lead by Luffy’s father Dragon against the world Government. Another of the clans of Wano, ‘Amatsuki’ means Heavenly Moon, to which belonged Toki, the wife of Oden whose Devil Fruit ability allows her to travel forward through time. Toki was born in the Void Century, but traveled forward 800 years into the future. We do not yet know anything about the Amatsuki Clan as none of its members have yet been shown during the Wano arc. To date, Toki is the only known member aside from the Amatsuki Clan, but perhaps there is another.
It would be fitting if the Sword Elder is a member of the Amatasuki Clan (Heavenly Moon) and keeping with the symbolism surrounding the Celestial Dragons / World Government being false self-proclaimed ‘gods’. The history of Wano in the Void Century is not yet known. We don’t know which clan lead Wano during this lost epoch. Could the Amatsuki have been leaders of Wano? It’s worth noting that Oden’s wife Toki traveled forward in time from the Void Century, during which the current regime came to power and the world Government was formed. At this time, Wano’s borders were still open to the world. When Toki met Oden she was trying to return to Wano. Her ability seemingly transports people through time, not space. She would thus have already been outside Wano, for some reason, at the time she jumped forward from the Void Century. It actually seems Toki was born outside Wano, implying the Amatsuki Clan were living elsewhere during this time.
Perhaps Sword Elder is the former Shogun of Wano, who ascended with the other ally monarchs to form the World Government in Marijoa. We have not seen the Wano style of garb, worn by this member of the Five Elders, outside of Wano. The emblem of the Amatsuki Clan, found on Toki’s kimono, appears to be a three pronged shape encircled by a crescent moon. It may be coincidence, but this mark bears some resemblance to the Hoof of the Celestial Dragon imprinted upon those enslaved by the World Nobles. The Sword Elder carries one of the cursed blades of the Kitetsu line. How would he come into possession of such a weapon? Shodai Kitetsu is one of the 12 highest grade swords in the world, unlikely to be found in the hands of a non-combatant.
What then of Mihawk? Could he have crossed blades with or even have been instructed by this member of the Five Elders in the way of the sword? Could this explain his potential connection to Imu? Mihawk defeated Zoro when they first met, but spared his life because of Zoro’s character. He trained Zoro during the two year time skip. He is pushing Zoro to surpass him, perhaps with a specific purpose. What if there remains one opponent, unknown to the rest of the world to carry such power, whom Mihawk was unable to defeat?
“Discover yourself. See the world. Strive to surpass me.” Mihawk’s words at the end of the duel on Baratie are later echoed by Rayleigh when he tells the Straw Hats to wait and see the world before learning the true history. Rayleigh sees the potential in Luffy to surpass the former Pirate King and thus takes him under his wing, mentoring him in the ways of haki in preparation for the New World Voyage. Rayleigh, who knows the True History, understands the weight that comes with taking up Roger’s mantle. He understood the importance of the voyage in preparing Luffy for this responsibility. We similarly see Mihawk recognize the yet to be realized potential in Zoro. Mihawk both pushes Zoro to surpass him and mentors him in the way of the sword, perhaps understanding that even when Zoro attains the rank of ‘World’s Greatest Swordsman’, one remains in the false heavens yet to be surpassed.
I absolutely believe Zoro will have his fated duel with Mihawk in his path toward becoming 'the World's Greatest Swordsman.' But just as becoming the Pirate King is not the end of Luffy's journey, Zoro must also go beyond the achievement of his predecessor. Discovery of One Piece means inheriting the will of Roger and Joy Boy before him. It means shouldering history and challenging the world Government and righting the wrongs of the One Piece world. Luffy's present end goal is the discovery of One Piece, just as Zoro presently views the final obstacle in his path to achieving his dream to be a duel with Mihawk. Both Luffy and Zoro were mentored by people who understand the heavy weight that comes with realizing their dreams.
Zoro began his journey with Luffy as a man falsely accused and labeled a demon. Standing in opposition to a false god of the Amatsuki (Heavenly Moon) clan who wields the cursed blade Kitetsu in the Holy Land Marijoa would be a fitting culmination to his journey to make his name ‘known in the Heavens’ and become the world’s greatest swordsman. If swords indeed are bound to the spirits of those who carried them, Kuina’s sword, her spirit, will have accompanied and aided Zoro in his quest to become the World’s Greatest Swordsman. We may yet learn more of the origins of the cursed Kitetsu blades and those by whom they were created. If history has taught is anything in One Piece, those branded demons are often anything but. If Zoro keeps Enma, the spirit of Oden is also ‘with’ him, representing Oden’s desire to fulfill Joy Boy’s will, reconciling Wano’s history in a fated duel against a member of the Five Elders.

2020.09.22 00:00 its_my_36th_account Good writeup on the Hinduphobia promoted by State of California.

The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (CDFEH) is the latest player in a series of negative actions being perpetrated by the State of California against a minority Hindu population in the state. Hindu Americans in California are overwhelmingly productive and lawful contributors to the state’s economy in a variety of industries and capacities, but yet they have unfortunately been singled out and targeted because of their religious beliefs through a barrage of negativity and hatefulness by various agencies and government officials within the State of California.
A state’s oppression of a minority community on the basis of their beliefs adversely impacts not only the Hindu American, as in this case, but also all Americans that believe in democratic values. The use of power to oppress is not only unlawful and unethical, but it is also a clear abuse of the processes laid out in the US Constitution by our founding fathers.
In a recently filed lawsuit by California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (CDFEH) against Cisco Systems (case number 5:20-cv-04374) under the pretext of discrimination of a Hindu ‘Dalit’ by other fellow Hindus, the complaint contains slurs against Hindu Americans while making false allegations about Hinduism, the religion followed by over 1.3 billion people world wide. This unfortunate approach by a government agency towards Hindus should not be judged in isolation. Instead, it is indicative of greater systemic discrimination being exhibited by the state’s governmental entities against a minority community. Below are simply a few recent examples of California’s rampant Hinduphobia.
CALIFORNIA TEXTBOOKS UNFAIRLY DEPICT HINDUISM NEGATIVELY RELATIVE TO ALL OTHER RELIGIONS
Over the past decade, there have been many instances of blatant discrimination against Hindus. For example, until recently, California textbooks have been blatantly unfair to Hindus in their description of Hinduism as a religion. Whereas words like ethics and moral teachings, unselfishness, compassion, righteousness, peace, love, law and justice are used for all other major religions including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Buddhism, none of these words were used to describe Hinduism in school textbooks. Whereas Christianity from Judaism and Islam from Christianity are depicted as distinct religions that share common beliefs and history, Buddhism and Jainism are described as improvements or “civilizing forces” from Hinduism. In 2017, prominent Hindu organizations like the Hindu American Foundation and the Hindu Education Foundation worked hard to convince the California Department of Education of the need for basic fairness in their depiction of Hinduism. Comparing the strengths of a few groups with the weakness of another violates every rule of basic decency and fairness, and yet, based on a press release on the Hindu American Foundation website, it took “a broad coalition of more than 75 interfaith and community groups, 17 state and federal officials, and 38 leading academics” to convince the California agency to portray Hinduism in a fair and balanced manner compared to the portrayal of all other religions discussed. To make matters worse, the Hindu children and their parents that patiently went through the process to share their feelings and thoughts with the CA Department of Education, were viciously attacked by the Director of the anti-India and anti-Hindu organization Equality Labs Thenmozhi Soundarajan. This group used abusive remarks towards Dalits and Hindus, while pretending to be the ‘savior’ of Dalits.
CA Department of Education has been at the core of Hinduphobic textbook curriculum for decades. Tom Adams, former Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction was later accused of being involved in Hinduphobic malpractices by collaborating with anti-Hindu hate groups.
SAN FRANCISCO BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OPPOSES INDIA’S PROTECTION OF HINDU AND SIKH PERSECUTED MINORITIES
On July 22, 2020, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors (SFBOS) passed an ill-conceived, ill-researched resolution, to express their displeasure at the Government of India’s humanitarian efforts. In December 2019, the Indian Government had taken steps to help persecuted Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, and other minorities by passing an act called the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). In response, the SFBOS passed Resolution 200771 which stated that it opposed India’s exclusionary National Register of Citizens and Citizenship Amendment Act. This is outrageous considering the Indian Government till date has not even passed (nor even considered passing) a National Register of Citizens nor does the CAA preclude any person of any religion from applying for citizenship using the proper channels. In fact, the United States in 1990 had enacted similar legislation called the “Lautenberg Amendment” which does the same thing; it expedited citizenship for certain persecuted religious minorities from the former Soviet Union. The US’ Lautenberg Amendment and India’s Citizenship Amendment Act were humanitarian gestures by secular democracies to protect minorities that were being badly hurt, tortured, or killed in their native countries. It is disgraceful that the SFBOS didn’t bother to do any due diligence prior to collectively wasting taxpayer money and passing this insulting and offensive resolution.
Instead, Supervisor Gordon Mar, the former Director of the Chinese Progressive Association and the main sponsor of this resolution, stated the following before the vote:
“India’s Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the National Register of Citizens (NRC), and the National Population Register (NPR) is rooted in the far-right Hindu nationalist ideology of the Modi/Shah regime in his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Together they lay the legal foundation to denaturalize millions of Indian minorities to create the largest network of concentration camps in the world. Since the act was passed last December, and especially during COVID, Muslims and other vulnerable communities, including Dalits, queers, and trans people, women, and the poor are being profiled and treated as second-class citizens and imprisoned in massive detention centers being built in India. Last August, the Indian government required 33 million people to prove their citizenship in the state of Assam, denaturalizing almost 2 million mostly Muslim Indians, rendering them stateless.” This statement is egregiously defamatory, blatantly false, irresponsible, and wrong on so many levels: the NPR and NCC have not even been discussed by the Indian parliament nor passed into law; the CAA does not discuss or affect the citizenship of any Indian citizen, including that of any Indian Muslim; there is no evidence of concentration camps being built across India; and the NRC that was conducted in Assam was done on the order of the Indian Supreme Court not on the orders of the BJP government.
Interestingly, Supervisor Mar then thanked the people who helped bring this resolution to the forefront, and among those, was Sharmin Hossain from Equality Labs.San Francisco Board of Supervisors (seen above) not only passed an anti humanitarian resolution on July 22, 2020, but also made false remarks about the largest democracy in the world
CA DEPARTMENT OF FAIR EMPLOYMENT AND HOUSING (CDFEH) MAKES INFLAMMATORY AND FALSE STATEMENTS AGAINST HINDUS AND HINDU TRADITIONS
And now we witness yet one more example of blatant Hinduphobia by a California governmental department. On June 30, 2020, the CDFEH filed a lawsuit against Cisco Systems on behalf of a Cisco employee alleging workplace discrimination on the basis of caste. While the discrimination issue itself is a matter for the courts, it’s appalling to witness that the complaint as-drafted is blatantly offensive to Hindus by openly linking casteism to the Hindu faith. This claim linking the two, which has been debunked by many scholars world-wide, is as offensive as linking slavery to the tenets of Christianity. And, to make matters worse, the entire case is seemingly predicated on the poor research, false statements and superficial articles that have originated from the same two-person anti-Hindu organization Equality Labs mentioned repeatedly above.
For example, the complaint prominently utilizes a 2018 Caste “Survey” conducted by Equality Labs that neither follows accepted standards nor norms of statistical surveys. The survey purports to find evidence of caste-based discrimination in the United States. However, it is interesting to note that there is no evidence that the survey was ever disseminated among any Hindu temples or mainstream Hindu organizations. The Hindu community at large seems to have been excluded from a survey that purports to measure discrimination in the Hindu community. The details of data collection or the process followed are surprisingly not even mentioned in this “survey”, but yet it was used by a California governmental entity to insult a major contributor to the Silicon Valley economy: the Hindu population.
To make matters worse, the complaint is replete with racist anti-immigrant statements against a minority community that has been facing a growing level of discrimination and hate crimes in this country. In fact, since 2015, the FBI has recorded about a 300% increase in anti-Hindu hate crimes annually. And yet, this CDFEH complaint makes general statements devoid of context with the effect of further igniting flames against this community. For instance, the complaint states that Cisco has a significant “over representation” of Asian employees compared to other companies in this field. This is a blatantly deceptive statement. Cisco is a tech company headquartered in the Bay Area; its industry and its location would naturally lead to a higher percentage of Asian employees. The inclusion of this statement is baffling; it clearly had no relevance to the issues of the complaint.
CONCLUSION
There are many other examples of anti-Hindu/anti-India behavior being orchestrated by the progressive organizations and governmental agencies across California in recent years. Hindu Americans are and have always been positive, productive contributors to their families, their companies, their societies, and to the country. They are one of the most highly educated demographics in the United States. And they are not usually the community to claim the victim status.
However, some patterns of unethical and harmful behavior become too blatant to ignore, and any American who cherishes the values of democracy would be foolish to do so. It is simply a matter of time before the propaganda machinations come for them too.

2020.09.20 16:35 xsupermoo Understanding the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple Judgement - Clear-cut with J. Sai Deepak

Here is the link of the video on Youtube by Upword with J. Sai Deepak - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2B30mZmgwM
Transcript from the video pasted below; edited for ease of reading.
TLDR; SC recognizes relationship of Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple and the Royal family of travancore, effectively paving the way for other temples across India. A message to Hindus as well, to not lose hope in the process, and DEMAND that the state respect the laxman rekha which the Constitution has drawn for itself (separation of state and religion; secularism).
Key takeaway - It is very clear that you've managed to achieve one of the perhaps more difficult outcomes, coming from the community you come from. Imagine in modern, secular, republican, whatever India, the right of a royal family with respect to a temple, based and rooted in Hindu tradition has been accepted in 2020. So given the Mahaul and the atmosphere that we live in, I would ask myself let us be a bit realistic and learn to celebrate one of the few achievements that we get.
So all the petitions are clubbed together by the Kerala High Court and results in a judgment of the Kerala High Court, which comes out on the 31st of January 2011. In which, the Kerala High Court basically says, that any privilege enjoyed or any position enjoyed by the ruler of Travancore who originally signed the covenant in May 1949, on behalf of the princely states of travancore and cochin on the one hand and the Indian Union on the other, ended with his demise in 1991 and in any case post the abolition of Privy Purse in 1971, thanks to the 26th amendment there is no concept of a ruler. Since, everywhere in the act with respect to the Padmanabhaswamy temple the word ruler has been used and the word ruler has become useless, therefore none of his successors would have any rights with respect to the temple. That was basically the position.
Therefore the simple question was this whether the use of the word ruler in the act in the travancore-cochin Hindu religious institutions Act of 1950 was it with reference to an individual or was it with reference to an office therefore if it's an individual then it ends with the signatory of the Covenant of 1949 but if it's with reference to an office then the successors get rights as well.
So, Kerala High Court rules that it was it ended with the life of the previous ruler which is in 1991. It passes detailed directions facilitating the takeover of the temple, its assets and management by the state government of Kerala through a Trust which is created by the state government of Kerala. It also directed opening of all the vaults of the temple, which were held to be sacred and never opened, at least some of the vaults and for every article in each of the vaults to be inventoried and put out for public display in a museum on a payment basis so that people, tourists and the general public can visit the temple to look at that, on the payment of a fee, so effectively what those articles which we effectively treat as articles of darshan had become articles of pradarshan. That is the consequence of the Kerala High Court judgment.

It is against that judgment that the royal family approached the Supreme Court in 2011. A stay was granted by the Supreme Court on day one and pending the disposition of the entire matter the court put in place certain committees which would administer and govern this particular temple in the interim so to speak and that is the proceeding which has ultimately resulted in the judgment of 13th of July 2020 where the court has finally come to the conclusion that the high court's judgment was patently erroneous, incorrect and certainly flew in the face of the history of the Covenant, the spirit behind the protection given to this particular family especially in the travancore-cochin Act of 1950**. So that's basically the sum and substance of the legal outcome.**

A direction of a secular institution which effectively strips a religious institution of its sanctity and all of that is sanctified in a judicial order, and the entire religious institution is assigned and handed over to a so called secular institution or a secular body is unimaginable even as let's say a practitioner of Constitution or at the very least a believer of constitutional. You don't need to be person who believes either in religion or in hinduism to arrive at this basic reasonable conclusion, that on the face of it, the directions of the kerala high could transgressed perhaps all canons of reasonableness, all canons of expectations of fairness with respect to treatment of fundamental freedoms of religious nature both individual and institutional, because this was not just a question of one family of the temple, crores and crores of people across the world believe in lord Padmanabhaswamy and the temple is the object of worship and faith and respect and whatnot.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

So, what are the positives from the judgement - A legal view.

What was this covenant is all about? So once you sign the Instrument of Accession saying I wish to be a part of Bharat you have entered into a couple of more agreements to protect a couple of your interests and your rights. Now the document which we are referring to earlier it is the Covenant. Now that document was not entered into separately by travancore and cochin, a single document was entered into on behalf of both the princely states because by then both the state had merged to become the travancore-cochin state. Central feature; of this document which is relevant to the case is a provision called article 8, is what captures the Covenant or the let's say the promise made by the Indian Union to the ruler of the Travancore family that their rights and their control over the management of the Padmanabhaswamy temple shall not be interfered with, not just in his lifetime but also to his successors. The rest of the temples form part of the Travancore Devaswom Board, which is all the temples in Travancore and cochin but this particular temple falls under the exclusive domain of the ruler of Travancore. Just as the three major temples of Kerala have special relationships with different families and this family (Travancore) has a special relationship with the Padmanabhaswamy temple, that's what the Covenant recognizes.
So this happens in May 1949, they sign this particular document in 1950, the HRC legislation of Kerala which is the travancore-cochin Hindu religious institutions Act of 1950 comes about and there's a specific chapter of this particular Act which is chapter 3 sections 18 to 23, the chapter itself is called Shri Padmanabhaswamy temple.
That is the structure as it exists in the act and there has been no amendment to that particular portion of the Act either after 1950 and till date it remains as is. Various multiple amendments have been undertaken to the act overall but this particular chapter remains unchanged even after the abolish of the privy purses in 1971, even after the death of the first ruler or let's say the covenant ruler in 1991, nothing has changed as far as this chapter is concerned.
So the state government which says that, they (royals) have lost rights undertakes amendments with respect to the rest of the Act, but never touches this particular chapter, meaning thereby they understand that this is protected by the Covenant.

Why is this important?

Every other royal family which has its own temple would have entered into a covenant of similar nature where its rights with respect to its institution would have been protected. But unfortunately, over a point of time the indian state or its representatives have managed to go back on their obligations with respect to this right. The abolition of the Privy Purses itself was going back on what is promised.

Therefore what is the long-term application of this particular judgment?

Similarly placed temples and similarly placed royal families can agitate in a similar manner for a similar outcome. There are a number of temples across the country which are similarly placed or almost similarly placed, you can't call them identical. Mysore, Ekling ji in mewar, lot of other places.

What happens to the current administrative structure which seems to be the primary point of discussion everywhere?

There were three sets of proposals broadly that were placed before the court.

The court has for all practical purposes accepted the proposal of the ruler in entirety. Almost, except with one or two changes.

What is the structure that has been proposed?

There is an existing Advisory Committee now you have two committees. The Advisory Committee which is the committee recognized under the Act has three people as usual. In addition to that, there is an administrative committee which has five people now.

Who are the three people who are the five people? Where is this interference coming from?

  1. Under the Advisory Committee you effectively have a retired judge of the High Court nominated by the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court who shall be a member of that particular committee.
  2. Then you have someone who's nominated by the ruler
  3. And the third person is a reputed Chartered Accountant who's nominated by the retired judge but in consultation with the ruler
So this is the three-member committee.
Then you have the administrative committee.
  1. The Rajah had basically proposed that the first person shall be a retired IAS officer of the rank of the secretary from the government of Kerala which the court has replaced with the district judge.
  2. Followed by a nominee of the ruler
  3. Followed by a nominee of the Ministry of Culture, Union ministry of culture
  4. Followed by a nominee of the state government
  5. A reputed chartered accountant or something of that sort.
So totally there are about five people.

Now the fear that has been floated in a couple of circles is: you have a state government nominee, you have a central government nominee, and you have a couple of retired judges sitting here and also presiding judges sitting here. This is effectively a backdoor to facilitate government entrenchment or establishment entrenchment.
By recognizing the rights of the rajah on the one hand and still creating a backdoor entry on the other.

Now, let's apply our logic if you are effectively recognized that article 8 is valid and article 8 speaks of his (rajah) dominion over this particular temple, can it be the court's conclusion that I will uphold his rights on one hand like this and on the other hand I will dilute it by creating committees which can override and prevail over his let's say supremacy so to speak? Not Possible, that's what logic says I don't know what are the forms of logic are Possible.
But the other thing is the Act expressly states that under section 18, that particular entity which performs the role of the executive officer, which is the Administrative Committee, shall be under the control and supervision of the ruler. And as far as section 20 is concerned the Advisory Committee shall only advise the discharge of the Functions.
So according to me this is like a telescope,

What is it that people are not telling you? In the judgment the court goes on to say further that in matters of policy relating to the fundamental character of the temple it shall be the ruler who has the final say.

What are those issues that the court actually identifies; five specific issues
  1. Any monthly expenditure
  2. One-time expenditure over 1 crore you have to take the permission of the ruler
  3. Any expense item which is over 15 lakhs
  4. Any expansion
  5. Or renovation of the temple
You have to ask the ruler not just ask, you need his approval. (para numbers 47 page number 100 take a look at Roman number 11 that's what it says)
What the court also says that any aspect of the administration which changes the fundamental character of the temple insofar as religious sentiments are concerned it will be the Raja who is the final authority and with respect to all the vaults and treasures that people wanted to open, the discretion is left to the committees. But as I said, the committee's are operating under the Raja, & the Raja is bound with the tradition I rest my case.

What do you make make of the negativity that has surrounded this issue?

I'm not saying certainly that everything is hunky-dory. I am certainly still of the opinion the court could have avoided populating this particular body with state representatives and that is where we had raised a couple of arguments.
Unfortunately, the court said that those arguments were never raised before the High Court. The basic point is in fact,
I'll quote you here we must perhaps not master the art of pulling defeat from the intestines of victory, that is something that we must not do. Because I am asking myself this simple question. Draw heart from the fact that the other side is seething, the other side is lost and the other side is effectively saying everything that have managed to get from the Kerala High Court in the first judgment I've lost it.
Effectively everything is gone right so there is no question of touching the treasures of the temple because that's sacred property that's not supposed to be touched. The fundamental relationship between the family and the temple has been restored and the control of the ruler over the administration of the temple for all practical purposes has been restored with adequate safeguards.
So where is the problem?
The problem is in twofold, these are let's call it footnotes for all practical purposes.

So does this judgment paves the way for the freedom of the temples all across the Country?

See there are specific examples where this model can be considered.
But can this be applied to every other temple I would be very circumspect and grounded in my extrapolation of that to the extent that the court is willing to recognize a special relationship which is rooted in tradition and which is a religious relationship. It is a welcome sign that today Indian courts recognized religious relationship which is Hindu in nature and character and which still also believes that the rights of control can reside in these royal families based on the facts and circumstances and the special relationship that the family enjoys with the temple.
So, from a big-picture perspective it is effectively a positive sign. It may not be a giant leap, it is perhaps a miniscule step, but for this temple it's a giant leap compared to where it was in 2011.
For similarly placed temples this could perhaps at least start as the starting point of a discussion if not the ideal end.

For temples that do not really have a ruler, history of the Raja or the priestly kingdom behind them. How do those temples, we often talk about freedom of temples from state, which have government control, what replaces it? (the management structure)

The basic point is if we subscribe to the concept of Sampradaya under hindu tradition it is possible to argue that over 70% of Hindu temples are sampradaya temples. Therefore they must enjoy the rights of autonomy available under Article 26. Which means members of the sampradaya should fight for populating the administrative bodies of that particular temple, fight for the ouster of state officials from that particular temple and they must initiate proceedings on the ground.
However all of this can begin that is what is called the denominational state. What is the denominational status? the denominational status is a fairly powerful tool to prevent encroachment of the autonomy of the religious institution by the state and therefore the first goal is to prove that you are in the form of a denomination.
For a moment let's assume that you're not even a denomination. In principle, the argument can't be that it is state-controlled which is the default and community control which is the alternative because that is not what is said by article 25 as well. So article 25.2a only limits itself to the state's role to supervise. It's a supervisory role that the state performs, it is not an administrative role. You can't take over the entire process. Again here, Dr. Swamy's judgment from the state of Tamil Nadu, the judgement of January 2014 is a landmark judgement on this particular issue. Where thanks to dr. Swami's efforts and others, this particular law was laid down by justice BS Jahan and justice bobde, was not the current chief justice, so the law as well as the remedy with respect to denominational temples and nondenominational temples is fairly clear
Unfortunately the clarity has not percolated to public awareness to a significant extent. A lot of us have to take the responsibility for not, let's say explaining this particular issue to the public in a language they understand or maybe we have we've been too caught up in our own legalities to explain it to them.

But the answer exists in law. Let's say the position of communities which are in a position to establish the denominational status is slightly better, that even without the denominational temple the state has a certain laxman rekha which the Constitution has drawn for itself, that is the Laxman Rekha that you must insist on, in principle as long as you stick to that and you don't budge from that particular position, denomination or other ways is a second issue that comes much later.

What I am is different but where you are supposed to be is the first question, so stay out. (secularism)

After this huge historic win, what next? where do you see this entire movement going towards?
Any case it tells the community please try and put some faith in this particular process. We are trying to take a shot at a certain edifice which has not work for you all these decades, now it has started showing results so don't be disheartened. If you choose to be disheartened you do it at your own peril and to your own detriment, nobody else stands to lose anything, you do.
Pessimism is a luxury that Hindus can't afford. You have no other option but to be optimistic and perseverant. Keep attacking, keep getting the job done.

/end
Note: Again, this post is a transcript from the video (linked at start above), and aimed to create a discussion and awareness amongst public in regards to Freedom of Hindu Temples from state.

2020.09.20 15:16 ZanyarV555 Iranian Paganism

Hey, I'm a Kurd raised in a Muslim family who were quite religious and went to mosques every week. I used to attend some Quran lessons after school but it all never made sense to me and I never felt close to Islam. When I turned 15, my family decided to move to Netherlands due to the fear of ISIS reaching our city. I met an Yezidi in my class in Netherlands, we became friends and started hanging out. I had not known who Yezidis were except I had heard they worshipped the devil and that I have some recent ancestors who were Yezidi, my family didn't seem very pleased about them. But as I learnt more about Yezidism, the myths, cosmogony, deities and when I attended festivals with my friend, it all really stuck with me and I started feeling drawn to it. I started reading extensively on ancient Aryan beliefs (Polytheism, Zoroastrianism, Yaresanism, Kurdish Alevism, Hinduism, Kalash) as I grew older and eventually I got interested in Paganism. I felt much more drawn to those beliefs compared to Islam which I didn't feel any connection with whatsoever.
I visited several Hindu temples in India and archeological sites across Kurdistan and Iran including the Charsten site in Duhok, Lalish and Anahita temple in Kangavar and also some sites in northern Europe which I forgot names of. At those places I felt a particularly strong calling to some force that was beyond our mortal realm which I had never felt before in a church or mosque.
The thing is, I don't know where I belong, Yezidism is unattainable because they're endogamous and don't accept converts, Yarsanis are very isolated, I haven't met anyone to date nor is there much access to information about their beliefs. Zoroastrianism, despite it's ancient history, didn't give me that feeling of connection either nor does it contain much of animism or reverence of nature like Yezidism has. Which is a letdown as I love nature and feel some sort of a spiritual connection to it. I also doubt it really reached all over modern day Kurdistan. Alevism, although it retains ancient practices, is a bit too islamic for me, it has Quran, lots of Islamic festivals and everything.
The two alternatives left for me are Hinduism due to it's Aryan origin and it's got everything I want. Then there is Iranian Paganism (pre-Zoroastrian Iranian religion) which I hoped to get help with from this sub. Is there any community you know of following this religion? If not, do I just start worshipping the deities individually or just stick with Hinduism? Any kind of advice will be appreciated.
